Marcus Connor

Marcus Connor is a digital artist best known for creating the Bitcoin Roller Coaster Guy GIF in early 2013. Inspired by community jokes comparing Bitcoin’s price swings to a roller coaster, he released the animation on BrainlessTales.com, Bitcointalk, and Reddit. The post was initially downvoted on Reddit, but the meme quickly spread widely.

By late 2013 it appeared on Bitcoinity. Fans later began remixing the GIF to match market cycles, especially during the 2014–2015 downturn. The meme surged again during the 2017 bull run, reaching the front page of r/Bitcoin and becoming a widely recognized cultural reference.

It continued evolving through community adaptations, including 3D printed versions in 2017, artwork reinterpretations in 2018, and cosplay at events such as Dragon Con 2019. In 2020 Marcus revisited the character to mark the Bitcoin halving with a new animation and sold his first original Bitcoin artwork. The Roller Coaster Guy remains a lasting symbol of Bitcoin volatility and culture.
