Studio Zeitwerk

Studio Zeitwerk is the Bitcoin focused art practice of Bart Bouman, an architect, designer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur creating sculptural interpretations of the Bitcoin timechain. His work exists at the intersection of time, material, and philosophy, transforming abstract blockchain structures into tangible physical forms.

Each sculpture represents fragments of the Bitcoin timechain, translating blocks, mining duration, and proof of work into visual and material experiences. Bouman works with wood, concrete, and melted fiat coins, using each material symbolically. Wood reflects time and accumulated energy through its natural grain, echoing Bitcoin’s proof of work. Concrete represents the ideological and technical foundations built by cypherpunks and cryptographers. Melted euro coins undergo a transformative process through fire, symbolizing the transition from centralized fiat systems toward Bitcoin.

Many works incorporate proportional block heights based on mining duration, creating physical landscapes of time measured through Bitcoin blocks rather than seconds. Through Studio Zeitwerk, Bouman explores Bitcoin not only as monetary technology, but as an artistic, philosophical, and cultural structure. His sculptures invite viewers to study the beauty of Bitcoin through art and physical experience.
