Biography
About George Bodine
George Bodine is a fine artist specializing in oil paintings of landscapes, cityscapes, and figures. Working both plein air and in the studio, his work reflects a strong commitment to observation, technique, and permanence.
He paints almost exclusively in oils, often using materials from small, specialized manufacturers. His process includes hand stretching Belgian linen, preparing surfaces with rabbitskin glue, and priming with white lead, following methods that date back centuries. He also works on sun-bleached Belgian linen mounted to sealed birch panels or archival boards, ensuring durability and longevity.
Bodine is entirely self-taught, developing a distinct style through independent study and practice. His work avoids strict categorization, moving across subjects while maintaining a consistent focus on craftsmanship and visual clarity.
His paintings are held in a wide range of collections, including private collectors, institutions, and public spaces. He has exhibited internationally, including at the MEAM museum in Barcelona and the Salmagundi Club in New York, and has completed multiple sold-out solo exhibitions. His goal is to create work that endures over time, both materially and artistically.
